The Devdasi

Said he once

Your naked truth is safe with me, said he once.
She did not even hear, naked she was, wearing
Gold, only. A few diamonds and she always
wore a silver ring with coral gem stone. She was naked,

The Devdasi, she was unashamed
The Lord of the Dark Temple
was her friend.
She did not tell that to them!

Her pain

Lecherous priests
ogle on her all greedy eyes
when she danced
her bare aura
resplendent in the sweat
trusting silence divine
of the lamp light
cold temple stone.
She knew all of them,
those dirty ways
by they violate her.

Do not they know?
the Dark Lord is her veil!
Do not they know,
He is the only man she worships.
Do they even believe in him!
One day, she dreams, one day....
On days and nights of much hurt
One sick priest after another
She does not hold much hope then
impossible! Curse you, silent idol,
Shyam Ardhanariswara
You do not speak!
You do not lift a finger
You do not rescue me
this prison of your temple!
I want to be free.

He returned for the first time
he was never away, she remembered.
The gold was too heavy.
Sedative seduction.
He returned.

One day, a wanderer came across
He loosely wore a saffron robe
there was this look in his eyes...
without any foreboding
Just like that, their eyes met
she was in love,
she was in love.

she was in love.
the priests all
scared and surprised
saw tears in her eyes.
All six priests
were found dead
in some time
in some time.
circumstances
mysterious,
when the rain
came down again.
